Gameplay and Mechanics

There is much to say about how Subnautica became such a hit game. It was a combination of breathtaking ocean landscapes, a great crafting system, an open world, and many things to do under the sea.
Global games from global developers (like Electronic Arts, Rockstar Games, etc.) can sometimes feel soulless. It’s a natural selection, we know that, but sometimes when you get a great game from an independent developer, it just feels cosier. The community feels that too and is ready to help you out if you need it.
So, let’s check out what Subnautica has to offer!
Plot

The plot is rather simple – you have been roaming through space, minding your own business, and suddenly crash-landed in the alien ocean world! Seems familiar? Probably not. You need to find a way out, or should we say, craft your way out of this unforgiving environment.
You feel like something’s not right about this planet. And who caused your crash? Maybe it’s the same person who created all those mysterious structures? It’s getting scary out there!
Luckily, you’ve got some things up your sleeve, like incredible futuristic technology and a working brain, so you’ll be fine!
Survival of The Fittest

It’s not easy down there, so keep yourself alive – scavenge, craft, and survive! Explore kelp forests, plateaus reefs, and bioluminescent underwater rivers! Manage your oxygen supply so, you know, you won’t die.
Unknown Worlds Entertainment has made many things to explore under the sea and even more things to fight off. Those last ones are especially unpleasant, so make sure that your life pod is prepared (it got a bit scruffy after crash landing).
Craft diving gear, lights, and habitat modules. If you want to find rarer resources - you’ll need to venture deeper! Advanced items give you a better chance of survival.
Underwater Base

You can also build bases on the sea floor where you can store your precious resources, park your vehicles, and get back for some oxygen after exploration. You can choose from a myriad of layouts and components. Be sure to share what you’ve done with the community!
Nanosuit Is The Key

You can’t go out like this! You’ll need a Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit (AKA PRAWN suit – the pun is indeed intended). Not only that, but you can’t go out without it for many other reasons, the main one is – you’ll just die.
You can modify your suit and, well, suit it to your needs with some mining drills, torpedo launchers, propulsion cannons, grappling hooks, and many, many more!
Ocean Full of Life

Subnautica’s oceans range from vividly colorful to downright creepy and eerie. But wherever you go, you can explore an amazing and beautiful living ecosystem full of life. And there are many ways to go about it! You can lure some insane creatures with fresh fish and then slaughter them to be on the top of the food chain in this sea life, or – you can just run away from predators as they are terrifying.
Predators usually lurk out as the sun goes down, so if you want to explore when it’s dark, bring on your A-game, as these beautiful but horrifying creatures are a real challenge!
The ocean teems with threats even below the sea bed. In the cave systems below, you can find the creature responsible for it all. Dark, claustrophobic passages will make even the mightiest of the adventurers feel like mere children.
